BBQ and Carnival Rides

As noted in an early post, Crystal's brother asked me to join him in entering the Sedgwick Couty BBQ contest held on the fairgrounds. Johnnie did the majority of the work as i was busy with the girls and spending time with my in-laws. i did assist with the seasoning and wrapping of our winning dish.A suggestion to the promoters for next years event... it would be more enjoyable to all involved if the competiton were held after sundown, with the judging at midnight. Working over a hot grill and smoker in 105 degree heat is not the most comfortable thing we've done. Our prosciutto wrapped sage and black pepper rubbed shrimp w/ dried fruit chutney took second place. Not too bad for our first competition. Next year we want 1st....in all categories!

Also while at the Fair the girls were able to enjoy their visit venture onto amusement park rides. Kayla was too afraid to ride the carousel, so Kendra and I rode that solo. ( no pics though) Kayla did enjoy riding the monster trucks with Willa, and both girls enjoyed a few rounds on the mini coaster.
